It is you as a person and your problems that are in focus rather than the method I use.
The duration of your course with me will depend on the problems you need to work with. When you start out with me, it will most often be the case that you need to come more often than later, when you typically need less of my help and we can therefore see each other at longer intervals.
Short-term courses can be 1-5 conversations, longer-term courses can be 10-30 conversations, and there can also be courses for an indefinite period of time. Quite a few of those I talk to come over a longer period of several years.
When the symptom level drops and perhaps even disappears, there will still be a need for the more basic personality structure to settle down.
In that period, there are also more relapses than there will be afterwards.
SPECIFICALLY FOR PROCEEDINGS WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Children and young people’s absence from school in connection with treatment with me is categorized as legal absence. According to the executive order from the year 2019, absences in connection with children and young people’s functional impairment are considered to be so-called legal absences from their schooling.
I always start courses with children and young people with one or two adult talks without the child, where we can discuss the child’s well-being, the family’s development history, your concerns and observations in more detail. Together we find working hypotheses, which I test in various ways with the child, and then talk to you, the parents, about my overall impression of the child’s strengths, difficulties and treatment needs. I have good experience in passing on the necessary and relevant information to you as parents without affecting the child’s confidential space with me. Naturally, the child must be informed about the framework for this. It is usually unproblematic, but it is also a matter of course to be respectful – also for any sensitive degrees of detail for both parties.
